I grew up learning how to « tie my hair in a bun » by my grandmother. We wore it tie up like this to keep our long hair out of the way while we worked. I never knew this was a historical hairstyle but, interestingly, her father (my maternal great grandfather) was from Rom, Germany.

Just a correction about a point that you made in 0:25 - There isn't any reliable evidence that proves there were any female Viking warriors. The "Shield Maiden" exists in legends only. It's interesting though to know about the various hairstyles of the Scandinavian women at that time period.

When wrapping braids over the top of your hair, it's better to plait them in 7, rather than 3, so that they will lay flat on the head. My grandmother, who was of German extraction, used this technique when she was young and taught it to me when I was a teenager.

I enjoyed the other two styles as well. I'm weird in that I think details like hair seem unimpotant to most history teachings, but just as today, hair is an integral component to a person's look, same as clothing. Thanks for doing this. You haven’t posted in a few years, so I don’t know if you even see these comments, but I wanted to tell you that I’m using the first hairstyle in this video for my senior prom in a couple of days. Your videos mean a lot to me, I would spend hours in middle school and the beginning of high school trying to braid my hair like you did and come up with my own hairstyles. Then I chopped off all of my hair two years ago and I couldn’t even do a rope braid on it. This is the first time since then that my hair has been long enough to do styles like these on, and I’m finally able to braid well enough for it to look good. Thank you for being such an important part of my adolescence and I hope you’re doing okay out there 💜

Thank you for the hairstyles. It is however the Scandinavian that was called Vikings. It is a mix for our beliefs, the boats, the runes and some were raiding. What is now called Viking age is an idea made between two battles. However, we lived the same way much before these battles, as rock carvings show. But to be accurate, the Scandinavian were called and known as Vikings, not just anyone travelling by boat. I just love that you focus on to get the hairstyles correct.

Thank you! I have been a Leia fan since I saw the first film in the drive-in as a kindergartner. We’re going to the Georgia Renaissance Festival Saturday, which is May the Fourth. I have learned the hard way that wearing my waist-length hair down is a very bad idea with the Georgia heat. So I think I’m going to do General Leia’s wearable hairstyle in honor of Star Wars Day! I’m experienced at French braid my own hair, even upside down. But still…Wish me luck! 😂

I love the infinity bun but I can't get it to be consistently stable, it just wiggles right out and would definitely not last a roller coaster ride. Other times it's locked in tight, not sure what I'm doing wrong

Great video! Thanks for sharing your Henna knowledge. I wonder what your natural color is. Mine is red and I am wanting to make it pop to copper. I put Brown Henna on yesterday but didn't wrap in plastic and left it on for a few hours. I feel like my hair looks a darker red which is not what I wanted but I know it may change a bit in a few days. So we'll see. I am thinking about getting one specific to more of a copper tone and trying that next week. Let me know your thoughts.
